Thing I will not miss

about this job, stupid subcontractors who don't know how to run the business end of their company. I am soooo sick of subs calling for payment when 1) they haven't even billed us yet (sub"don't you just pay me from the contract?" me"no. You have to send us an invoice so that we can bill the customer and in turn pay you.") 2) They faxed the invoice and didn't follow up with either a phone call to confirm or a hard copy (two months down the road - subs"why haven't we been paid for job X? I sent an invoice to you 2 months ago." Me -running their aging, "Well I don't show we've ever received an invoice." sub"well I faxed it. You should have it." me"I'm sorry but we didn't get it. You should always follow up on any documentation, especially invoices that you send via fax. Sometimes we just don't get faxes.") 3) They've invoiced a week or two ago and want payment today. (subs"when will we get payment on this?" me"well we can't pay you until we've invoiced the customer and they've paid us.")

The list goes on and on. I'm quite sure they do excellent work out in the field, but they either don't have any office staff or the office staff is pretty inept. I've had to explain to numerous vendors how invoices from them are what prompt us to invoice the owner and thusly receive payment and pay them. I don't understand how they can stay in business when they can't even remember how the flippin food chain of contracting goes. Granted I'm an money person, which means for everything I do in the office, I'm thinking of how it effects the bottom line, so I do have maybe a slightly more evolved way of looking at things. However, these people are in business to make money. You would think that they would put out the effort to ensure that they get their money in a timely manner, but they don't.

Anyhoo, I've handled quite a bit of these calls today and I've had it. I love so many things about this place, but this is one that I will be glad to not see again. Unless of course I get a job at a contractor's up in Portland. I guess only time will tell.
